The luxury tote category has split into two camps: bags that photograph well and bags that actually work. Gucci’s new Mercato is trying to be both.
Introduced for Spring Summer 2026, the large Mercato is inspired by Italian market shoppers. The sides can be worn open or cinched, and a piston closure keeps the top more secure than a fully open tote.
The GG-canvas version is $2,900, measures 15.7 inches wide, and weighs roughly 1.5 pounds. Gucci says it fits an iPad, phone, long wallet, AirPods and small essentials.
Worth considering if you want a recognizable luxury work or travel tote without the rigid weight of an all-leather bag. Skip if you prefer discreet branding.
