The wearable version is soft brown liner, one imperfect shadow, flexible lashes and a berry lip. Not grey foundation and actual exhaustion.

Tired girl makeup is not about making yourself look unwell. It is the deliberately imperfect alternative to polished clean-girl beauty: lived-in liner, lashes that look defined rather than lacquered, skin that still has texture and a berry lip applied without a ruler.
The look has moved beyond social media. Vogue documented the broader embrace of visible under-eye character, while Fall 2026 runway coverage highlighted intentionally smudged liner at Dior. The useful version is not a costume. It is four strategic products and restraint.
Use a blendable brown pencil, one soft cream shadow, one coat of flexible mascara and a sheer berry lip. Keep the complexion comfortable and selective. The “tired” part should come from softness around the eyes, not dry skin or a heavy grey base.

Sephora currently lists this creamy brown pencil at $23 and says it can be smudged before it sets, then wears waterproof and smudge-proof for up to 16 hours. Apply it close to the upper lashes, add less to the outer lower lash line and blur immediately. Do not draw a perfect wing. That defeats the assignment.
Fine Print: $23 | rich brown matte | waterproof after setting | up to 16-hour brand-reported wear | approximately 18,900 Sephora reviews
Why this made the cut: It has a blending window followed by enough hold to keep “lived-in” from becoming “migrated to cheekbone.”

Solo Shadow is a finger-friendly cream color for a sheer, buildable wash. MERIT currently prices it at $26. Tap a muted brown, taupe or grey-brown across the lid and stop before the edges look perfectly airbrushed.

Fine Print: $26 | cream shadow | matte and sheen finishes | finger application | ophthalmologist tested | 4.5 rating from more than 3,500 brand-site reviews
Why this made the cut: One pot replaces a palette and creates softness without crisp, overworked edges.

The rich espresso-brown Drift shade makes more sense here than dramatic black. Tower 28 prices it at $20 and describes it as water-resistant, smudge-free, buildable and suitable for sensitive eyes and contact-lens wearers. It is not tested as waterproof.

Use one coat, concentrating at the roots. The goal is visible lashes, not a lash campaign.
Fine Print: $20 | 0.29 fl. oz. | espresso brown | water-resistant, not waterproof | sensitive-eye and contact-lens safe | 4.5 rating from 1,472 reviews
Why this made the cut: The brown shade and flexible definition support the low-effort finish.
Black Honey is a sheer berry-brown rather than opaque lipstick. Clinique currently prices it at $25 and describes it as buildable, soft-shine and 95 percent conditioning ingredients. Apply directly, blot once and leave the outline soft.
Fine Print: $25 | 0.06 oz. | sheer berry-brown | soft-shine | fragrance-free | buildable
Why this made the cut: It creates the bitten, slightly faded berry effect without liner, a lip brush or precision.
Start with moisturizer and SPF. Use concealer only where discoloration bothers you instead of painting an opaque triangle under each eye. Keep shadow close to the lash line and use berry color on the lips or cheeks, not across the entire eye socket.
Texture is allowed. Irritation is not. Do not place pigment inside the eye unless the product is approved for that use.
If you own almost nothing: Start with the brown eyeliner. It creates most of the look alone.

If mascara always looks too done: Choose Tower 28 in Drift and use one coat.

If you want the easiest entry: Black Honey works with otherwise normal makeup.
If you already own brown liner: Add a muted Solo Shadow instead of another palette.
